It is time to kick-off our official haunt previews for the 2017 season. We have a whole week planned with the latest information on both mainstream haunted attractions and smaller niche attractions within the tri-state area. We kick off our annual haunt preview with what perhaps was the most improved haunt of 2016, Circle of Screams.
The 2016 season was a hallmark year and a turning point in the troubled history of Circle of Screams. Historically, Circle of Screams was one of the poorest managed, and least effective attractions visited on a yearly basis and the change in direction implemented last year saved this dying show. While not as refined or as structurally impressive as some of its competitors, the dedication, and passion of the Circle of Screams team turned a lackluster attraction into an interactive show that has finally perhaps found its niche in the ever-expanding haunt scene in Northeast Pennsylvania. An emphasis on creating an innovative, progressive show coupled with a commitment to operational professionalism changed our perceptions on how we viewed this attraction. The excitement and buzz surrounding this season should serve as a reminder to those tired, worn out haunts that sometimes-embracing innovative ideas result in a renewed lease on life.
Circle of Screams featured at the Circle Drive-in Theater, in Dickson City, Pennsylvania, is the definition of a “comeback story.” Before the 2016 season, we dreaded visiting this attraction, like poor management, a lack of professionalism and frankly a lackluster show made each visit nauseating. Now one may think this is a poor way to start off what is intended to be a positive, promotional preview, but it is necessary to provide a frame of historical reference. In 2016, this deplorable, poorly managed attraction made a complete turnaround, and this miracle can only be attributed to the passionate work of haunt management, scare-actors, and staff. While Circle of Screams, still was far behind other larger haunts regarding infrastructure or build quality, the effectiveness of scares, quality acting, and overall professionalism provided an entertaining show that warranted multiple visits.
The haunt management team in charge of Circle of Screams found ways to work around the structural limitations, and emphasized the strengths of their show, to overcompensate for design shortfalls. Interactive, mature scare actors worked tirelessly to recreate iconic horror and comic book movie scenes, pouring their energy into giving each customer a great show. Representations of “Jason” from Friday the 13th and “Freddy Kruger” of Nightmare on Elm Street fame, were spot on, and each actor tailored their performance to the response and maturity level of each guest. Circle of Screams, put on a theatrical passion fueled performance that floored us, and the 2017 season promises to continue the positive momentum with an all-new show, which showcases the talents and innovative spirit of a talented team.
What to look for in 2017?
In 2017, Circle of Screams is presenting an entirely new show, essentially launching a brand-new attraction under the guidance of a passionate, focused haunt management team. Circle of Screams features three core attractions and an end of season special event. This season promises to be the start of a brand-new show that embraces innovation and uses the passion of each performer and staff member to create an unforgettable experience.
